Owen’s Nursery

I finished Owen’s nursery before he was born but I didn’t have time to write this post! So here are a whole bunch of pictures of his nursery taken before he was born. Now the room is a lot more lived in and a little messier but so far I think Owen loves it!

Here is a reminder of what it looked like right after we moved in:

Fairy stickers on the wall with green and purple paint. Awesome.

And here it is now! Dan was amazing and added the built in bookshelves as well as all the board and batten. I painted my blanket chest that I built in high school (Dan has one as well!).

001

My mom bought us the amazing glider and we love it. It is so so comfortable and I have already put it to good use in the past few weeks with Owen!

008

I made the artwork above the dresser myself. I copied some things I have seen online but I really love it.

034

I bought the dresser on KSL and re-finished it. My mother in law sewed the changing pad cover for us. We have since moved the blue laundry basket into the closet and added a diaper genie to the other side of the dresser.

024

The cute polka dot knobs are from Hobby Lobby and the silver pulls are from Lowes.

022

Here is the inside of his dresser with all his clothes ready for him! We have SO MANY clothes, I can’t even believe it. I only put 0-6 months in the drawers and closet and they are totally full.

026

We are actually doing cloth diapers (I know, just when you thought I couldn’t get any more granola…) and we started last week and so far it is going really well! I may do a post on that at some point. But we are still using disposable sometimes so they are ready to go in his dresser.

025

I love all the awesome books we have so far and I can’t wait to read them to Owen! I hope he gets my love of books and not his Dad’s…

009

I made the animal artwork with my Silhouette.

018016

My mom and sister have bought a bunch of adorable wooden toys that I absolutely LOVE! My mom gave Owen a sweet wooden train set for Christmas that I didn’t have on the bookshelves yet, but it’s so cute!

The awesome quilt was made by Dan’s cousin, Vienna and I absolutely adore it!

005

019

We love Owen’s room and I’m so grateful that Dan put up with my crazy ideas and that he worked so hard to make it look awesome! Owen loves it too and he has been sleeping in his crib for about a week now and he has been doing great. We put a lot of work into this room and we love it!

Baby Updates

I have had several showers the past few months and I have gotten so many amazing gifts! My ward/neighborhood had a shower a while ago and my mom and sister were able to come, which was really nice.

210

Natalie, Kayleen and Michelle were in the Primary Presidency with me and they did the shower for me. There was tons of yummy food and it was really fun to visit with everyone.

206

The presents were awesome too!

Last week, my dearest friends, Shelley and Bre did a shower for me. My sister also helped a lot and my mom brought some food too! These gals mean so much to me and have been the best friends a girl could ever ask for. I am honestly so blessed and grateful for their friendship. It’s also nice to have their mommy knowledge and I’m sure I will be taking even more advantage after the babe gets here!

Steph made these adorable favors with cheddar popcorn.

IMG_9437

They put up these circles and people wrote some advice and tips for me to read.

IMG_9402IMG_9349

We had a bunch of delicious soups, bread and of course, treats!

IMG_9422IMG_9360IMG_9381

Lots of people came and I got so many fun gifts! I just love seeing people that I don’t get to see a lot. There were people from my mom’s ward, girlfriends, their moms, family friends etc. It was awesome.

IMG_9396IMG_9416

Kaley (left) just had Reese a month ago, Kelsie (middle) is due at the end of January and Kristin (right) is due in March! We also have another friend due in February and we all went to high school together!

IMG_9426

Kinda blurry but I love having my mom and sis come to my showers and share the fun of opening gifts and looking at all the fun baby stuff! These two are chomping at the bit for this little guy to come and I can’t wait either! They are going to be an awesome Grandma and Aunt!

Nursery update: the room is about 95% finished! I will probably do a full nursery post soon but I just need to finish up some final things! I made some artwork and got it up and I LOVE it!

003

I painted the frames the same dark gray as the dresser.

001

I have gotten all his little clothes put away and everything organized. He has SO MANY tiny baby clothes! I haven’t even pulled out anything over 6 months and the drawers and closet are full! So excited for him to wear all the cute stuff!

002

And finally a belly picture since I haven’t done one in about 2 months! This is almost 37 weeks. I don’t feel like my belly is that huge but looking at this picture reminds me that it is! I love it though and I have been feeling really great for the most part. I sleep all night without any problems and I still have tons of energy and don’t want to sit very much. I definitely need to take more breaks and things are getting harder to do (bending over is a nightmare!) but so far so good! I have been trying to eat healthy and exercise and I feel like it has really helped me feel so good during my pregnancy. Hopefully it continues to go well and I can just keep busy until he decides he’s ready to make his appearance!

Nursery Updates

I have had the nursery done up to this point for quite a while, I just haven’t posted pictures. But we are almost done and I just have some final small things to do like accessorize the bookshelves, hang curtains, and do some artwork. I’m loving it so far!

DSC02472

Our silver/gray glider will go in the right corner kind of in front of the bookshelf. We should be getting the glider this weekend and I can’t wait!

213

I’m going to hang some curtains and I’ll probably try using a tension rod between the bookshelves. I think I’m going to use the tan canvas drop cloths and add a strip of cute fabric vertically along the edge of the curtains.

DSC02477

I made the crib skirt without sewing and attached it using velcro strips.

DSC02476

I love how the dresser turned out. I got it on KSL for cheap and I re-finished it. The gray was darker than I wanted but I actually really love the contrast between it and the blue/gray wall color.

211

My mother in law made the changing pad cover for me. I love the cute knobs! I’m going to add some artwork above the changing table and some large map artwork above the crib.

212

I may end up adding an upholstered pad for the top of the blanket chest at some point.

DSC02473

We are just about finished and I can’t wait for it to all be done so I can just enjoy it. I know I will just sit in there in my glider and love it. It makes me smile every time I walk by and peek in his cute room!

Updates around the house

Garden update: it’s out of control. Everything has done amazing except for the red onions. They grew really tall but they are tiny so that was a bummer. But just look at the madness.

013 (2)

We have harvested the following: spinach, lettuce, cilantro. parsley, basil, cucumbers, carrots, green beans, peas, green onions, zucchini, tomatoes, and maybe more…can’t remember. It’s amazing that all this came from some tiny seeds I planted a few months ago! I love it and I’ve learned a ton about what to do differently and change for next year.

019 (2)

This all came out of one quick harvest the other night. Basil, green beans, zucchini, tomatoes, carrots and cucumber. It’s crazy! I have made a lot of delicious and relatively healthy zucchini bread and we love it. Luckily I only planted one zucchini plant because that has been insane.

A few things for next year:

  • plant more: peas, peppers
  • trellis the peas
  • trellis the cucumber
  • probably won’t plant: carrots
  • plant 1 cherry tomato plant
  • plant less: spinach, cilantro, parsley, lettuce
  • fertilize everything, especially onions, cucumber
  • give tomatoes their own box with support
  • give zucchini its own box

014 (2)

Our backyard flower beds look awesome and I love the bright flowers. They have just exploded and gotten huge. We will still add more perennials to our backyard in the fall but I love the color we have had so far.

016 (2)015 (2)017 (2)

A few weeks ago I got the hankering to repaint our half bath on the main level. I had painted it the orange color over a year ago but it was just too much for me in that small room. And it clashed with the counters and cabinet.

IMG_5051

So I painted it the same gray we have in our master bedroom and I also painted the cabinet white and added hardware. It looks a million times better now and it was almost free (just bought the hardware)! I may add something where the vinyl was but I’m not sure yet.

020 (2)021

I also want to get a different rug, but overall, it feels much calmer and brighter and doesn’t clash as much with the counter and floors.

022 (2)

Nursery progress! I am dying over how much I already love this room. Dan has been a beast and done a ton of work and it looks amazing so far.

027 (2)

Remember when it used to look like this? Keep in mind those are fairy stickers and one wall was sickly green. And that orange rug won’t stay there.

IMG_3884

Now it seems so much bigger and brighter and I LOVE IT! We still have tons of work to do but I wanted to update with some progress. We still have to caulk a ton and I will paint the board and batten bright white to match the walls. Hopefully we can build a window seat too! The color looks really blue in here but it has a greenish grayish tone to it as well and is really pretty. We also painted the bathroom across from the nursery the same bluish color and it looks a lot different in there too.

025 (2)

I bought this crib on KSL ages ago because it was the one I wanted for cheap! I still love it. The top of the board and batten has a shelf so I can put artwork on it (not above the crib obviously).

026 (2)

There is a ton more to do in here and I am excited to figure out what type of rug to do, artwork, a dresser, glider, lighting, etc. Of course I have tons of ideas and plans so hopefully it all works out and looks as great as it does in my head!
